Relationships Australia – NT is partnering with the NT Department of Corrections to deliver domestic, family, sexual violence (DFSV) counselling services to women across NT prisons.
The program, Healing Inside was named and co-designed with women in prison and is informed by the Culturally Informed Trauma Integrated Healing Approach (CITIHA), a framework from Aboriginal organisation We Al-li, developed by Aboriginal Elders.
Healing Inside aims to provide holistic, trauma-informed counselling and group psychoeducation to women who are incarcerated and have been affected by DFSV. The model of care integrates narrative therapy, psychoeducation and feminist framework to empower women, help them reclaim their narratives and foster healing in the context of their experiences.
The program’s core values are centred on culture, dignity, empowerment, safety and respect, with a strong emphasis on creating an environment that recognises and responds to the broader social and gendered contexts of violence.
The Healing Inside program is currently making an impact at Darwin Correctional Centre, providing culturally safe, trauma-informed counselling and group education.
This program is funded by the NT Department of Corrections.
