The Northern Territory is home to many dedicated community organisations .
These organisations work every day to support people and improve their lives. We work alongside several of these organisations, helping them to deliver their services and reach more people across the NT.
Hoops 4 Health is a First Nations led organisation using healing-centred sports to deliver trauma and culturally grounded programs across Northern and Central Australia.
Established in 2001 (and active for over two decades) by Timmy Duggan OAM, the Northern Territory’s first National Basketball League (NBL) player.
Their core spproach combines physical activity with neuroscience, yarning, and “calmness circles” to promote social and emotional wellbeing, emotional regulation, and resilience.
DIMS is a not for profit organisation, established in 2005, that is managed by a team of all Indigenous men living in the Darwin Region. The organisation has Indigenous male staff delivering programs and services to Indigenous male clients to help improve their social and emotional well-being.
Originally established as a Family Violence Prevention and Healing Program, with early support from the Darwin Aboriginal & Islander Women’s Shelter (DAIWS), the service grew in response to the need for culturally appropriate support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men.
Today, DIMS is an independent Aboriginal-led organisation delivering culturally safe social and emotional wellbeing, healing, and family violence prevention programs for Indigenous men in Darwin and across the Northern Territory. Through a strength-based and trauma-informed approach, DIMS works to strengthen men, families, and communities while supporting positive and lasting change.
