Aboriginal Building Connections is a culturally appropriate parenting education program, run by the Groups and Cultural Services team at Relationships Australia – NT.
The program supports parents, grandparents, carers and extended family members in helping children navigate and cope during their parents’ separation.
During the 3-hour group program or individual sessions, participants will learn:
- How family separation and unresolved conflict affects children
- How to be supportive of your child’s relationship with the other parent
- Skills to manage difficult emotions and how to support your children to do the same
- Identifying healthy and unhealthy parenting behaviours and respond positively
- How to build healthy relationships with your child post-separation
- Positive habits for your wellbeing
When delivered in a group environment participants can share experiences with each other. It supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parents (and extended family members) to discuss ways in which children can grow up safe, healthy and happy.
It’s important to feel supported and connected through life’s transitions.
This program is funded by the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department.
