Child-Inclusive Mediation

Child-Inclusive Mediation enables a child to have their voice heard safely during the family mediation process.

At Relationships Australia -NT, sessions will take place with one of our qualified child consultants who will facilitate conversations with the child in a safe and supportive space.

After seeing the child, the child consultant will then share their views with both parents in a careful and appropriate way. This helps guide conversations in mediation and supports outcomes which work better for the child.

Both parents need to agree for a child to take part in a Child-Inclusive Mediation session. The service may not be suitable for every family.

Our trained child consultants are experienced in supporting children through family change. They work independently and remain neutral, making sure the child’s voice is included in a safe and balanced way.

It is important to note, only children aged five years and above are eligible to participate in Child-Inclusive Mediation.

By listening to a child’s voice, stronger foundations for positive co-parenting can be built.

This program is funded by the Commonwealth Attorney-General’s Department.
